Backsplashes can use a splash of creativity

Backsplashes have come a long way! Once they were considered a necessary part of the kitchen to ensure the longevity of one’s walls, but today they have become crucial design elements that create the tone and mood of a space.

There are all kinds of materials that can be used for a backsplash – mosaic tiles, subway tiles, ceramic, wood or concrete.

My favourite material of all is stainless steel. It has a modern and seamless look. It’s durable, stylish and easy to clean. I much prefer a clean look over a tiled backsplash with visible grout lines. And the installation is fast and simple! Our fabricator makes a template and cuts the stainless steel to size. The steel is applied through invisible adhesive and screws.

When deciding on the design of your kitchen, consider the backsplash material and placement a crucial part of a beautiful end design!

In the kitchen remodelling project pictured above, in False Creek, Vancouver the toe kicks on the cabinets and the backsplashes are in stainless steel and were custom fabricated. The result? A clean, contemporary design aesthetic!
